A HAPPY END TO EARTH DAY

Writer's picture: Raen AlcazarRaen Alcazar

This year, Earth Day is brought to us with extra triumph. The Minnesota House of Representatives has carried out a new law to ban the recreational hunting of Minnesota wolves. Prior to this, wolves were hunted in the state; unprotected. But thanks to the ESA (Endangered Species Act), hunting and trapping is now illegal. Wolves have been consitered to be 'dangerous' throughout folktale and legends.

This is also the exact reason the law was put into place--wolves do not pose a threat to humans. In Minnesota, there has only been one reported wolf attack that occured 10 years ago.

For wolf advocates and wildlife conservationists, this is a huge win wolves and a fastastic end to Earth Day.

Once people understand the true nature of wolves and their plight in the wild, that's one step closer to saving them.
